The only positive thing about this hotel was its location. Other than that, there was nothing to like. When I found out there was no water in my room, the receptionist at least had the decency to give me a refund. But trust me, that was the only decent thing about my stay. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from this place, it's not worth the money or the risk. You'd be better off sleeping on a park bench.
This place was an absolute disaster. The bed sheets were dirty, along with the floor, bathroom, lobby, and hall.

We had a fantastic stay at a hotel in this city. The location was excellent, being on the main avenue and not far from the port. The hotel was also conveniently located on Plaza De Cagancha downtown. The staff were very helpful and polite, making our stay even more enjoyable. Additionally, the cleanliness of the hotel was outstanding.

I have stayed at the Hotel Lancaster a couple of times now & for value for money in downtown Montevideo it is the best I've found. It isn't (or at least the cheapest rooms aren't) good for a romantic getaway but for a clean, convenient, cheap hotel, it's the tops. Much better than other hotels in the same price range I've stayed in in Montevideo.
For the price I paid for the room I wouldn't wish to complain about anything. But my room wouldn't be what I want for a night in or extended stay.

The hotel was clean and comfortable. It certainly had no pretentions of being a luxury or 5-star hotel, but one got what one paid for in a clean, comfortable environment. The location was excellent for downtown Montevideo, with easy access to the business district.

The hotel is located in a beautiful square/main avenue, providing a convenient and central location for exploring the city. Despite the dated nature of the place, the rooms are comfortable and clean, with adequate facilities and a satisfactory breakfast. the staff is friendly and accommodating, creating a pleasant atmosphere during the stay.
Noise from the surrounding area can be disruptive at times.

The hotel room was not the same as what was shown on the we site. It was disgusting. Smelled like smoke, noisy, dirty and the breakfast was horrible.

The hotel had a great location, close to many restaurants and attractions in the city. the free breakfast was also a nice surprise, with different options to choose from. the staff was friendly and willing to assist with any requests.
the room was in poor condition, with stained carpets and bedding that seemed outdated.

Excellent location on one of the main city squares with views along the main shopping street and down to the sea. Guest computer was useful.
The cleaning staff did not clean and were rather rude. The cleaners would hold the lifts (elevators) for hours meaning that guests would have to walk up and down the stairs. We were on the 10th floor and so this was not much fun! In addition on one occasion when I walked up the stairs a cleaner swung the elevator door open into me - this hurt but the cleaner just laughed and offered no apology. The reception staff were not much better and would pander to the large noisy groups that the hotel seemed to like having while ignoring the needs of couples and family groups.

Good location, reasonable facilities including fridge and free use of internet computer. If you ignore the awful front desk service, it is good value.
Front desk service was dreadful. I arrived on time but was asked to wait. Over the course of an hour I had to ask three different people what the cause of delay was. Each time I had to give my name. One of the staff just went home during this time. An elderly gentleman trying to change his room said the hotel was worse than anything he'd experienced in World War 2. He was exaggerating... After all this I was surprised tha the room was quite acceptable.

There was nothing that I liked about my stay at the Hotel Lancaster.
The hotel is dirty and seedy. In the dead of winter the heat did not work.A staff person could not help nor were there free-standing heating units that could be brought to my room. The phone in the room was completely dead and flithy. The bathroom sink was loose and coming off the wall. The hotel is understaffed and clearly no care goes in to maintaining the facility.

Not much, it's very basic hotel.
It was not very clean and the rooms were very small.

Central location ideal, 12th floor room afforded good view over the Montevideo skyline, reception staff helpful to book evening entertainment.
The state of cleanliness left a lot to be desired. When we arrived (late afternoon), the bathroom had not been cleaned, rubbish not emptied and empty crisp packets/coke cans were left on the side from the previous occupants. The porter tried to surreptitiously remove the aforesaid items while we set our luggage down, but it didn't go unnoticed!
